“Get Off My Bus” Tip #1

Filed under: Making Decisions,Take Control — Robin Sacks...Speaker, Author, Performance Coach @ 8:33 am

Welcome to March…and a new beginning for you. Each day through the month of March, author Robin J. Sacks will share one thought and action step from her latest self-help book, Get Off My Bus: How to Get Clarity, Get in the Driver’s Seat, and Get Moving in Your Life!

So…hop on board and let’s go!

Tip #1 (March 1): Get Grounded!
We live in a world where it is easy to feel “out of control” sometimes. However, “control” is a major grounding issue. There are only 2 things you need to know about control in order to immediately affect your life in a positive way:

1. there are things in your life over which you have NO control
2. there are things in your life over which you have total control

OK…now stop thinking!

You cannot control the weather, the traffic, the stock market or other people (that one is at the top of my list!). However, I am sure that you spend a lot of your time focusing on and stressing about those things, even though there is absolutely nothing you can do about them. Hmmmmmmm….interesting.

What you can control is a really short list…YOU. You have virtually total control over your choices, your actions, and your attitude. Often, people spend either very little time focusing on those things (because you are too busy reacting to everything) or way way too much time, creating “paralysis by analysis” for yourself.

It stands to reason that life is not about what happens to you, life happens to everyone. Life is about how YOU CHOOSE to RESPOND to what happens to you, which happens to be the one thing over which you have control. Hmmmmmmmm……interesting.

Find 1 opportunity today to react differently than you normally would. For example, if someone cuts you off in traffic, laugh and say, “I’m glad one of us was paying attention,” instead of cursing up a storm and holding that negative energy for the rest of the day. When you become aware of your own stress-inducing default responses to life, change becomes easy…

Stay inspired!
